Be extremely before carrying out any form of online shopping. Sites like this need to have a secure web connection

As you have correctly mentioned,
Identity theft is one of the many threats.
Other include your passwords to your email accounts,
your credit card numbers, to some extent even your location as the server records your ip.
my advice to you is avoid online shopping,
but if you still feel like going shopping online take great care!

or something similar
also note the addressbar on top.!
As noted in previous posts, there are important issues to be addressed when shopping online. I’ve only 3 years experience, but I was careful to learn some important safeguards right from the beginning.
1. NEVER deal with an unsafe/unencrypted site. A closed padlock icon should appear in the outer border (not inside) of the window.
2. There are ways to check the past performance of the vendor you are dealing with, such as a transaction history, user’s listing , BBB index, etc. Remember to check for aliases.
3. Use a highly recognized third party to obtain the product from the seller and only send it on to you when they receive the agreed upon payment from you.
4. Utilize sites that proffer 128-bit encryption and that post a secure certificate of authenticity.
5. NEVER give your birthdate, social security number, driver license number, passwords, or an personal famly information on any site unless you have accessed that site direcly; i.e. typed in the URL yourself, rather than be sent to a site via a link. Phishers can construct a site that looks exactly like the real the real site.
6 Remember to deal responsibly with online shopping, banking, and investing.
