I am going to sign up for an identity theft protection service. I DO NOT want to hear any nonsense about how you may think they aren’t worth the money because I can do it myself. I can file my own taxes, too, but I still go to H & R Block. What I want to know is what services should I look for when choosing a company. Please DO NOT suggest any specific company. Just suggest things that an identity theft service should provide so that I can look for things that maybe I haven’t already thought about. Thank you for your answers.

Some of the insurance companies provide identity theft insurance. This is even better than contracting with an identity theft company. The insurer will pay in the event of a claim, and they have resources and outsourcing for companies they do business with– it’s a great service and pretty cheap. Check that out- I know Allstate sells this coverage. You can get it with either a homeowner’s policy, or with renter’s insurance. If you call Allstate, they will tell you exactly what it covers, and from there, you can do your pricing with different companies to see what you like better. When you compare, you will see it isn’t always “apples to apples”–so this way, you can get a good idea of what features are important to you.

I am providing a link because it has a document at the bottom of the page that will prove to be beneficial in making your decision. It has a comparison of products and what is important.
